NBC/WSJ poll: Shutdown debate damages GOP
Thu Oct 10, 2013
"...much sound and fury, signifying nothing" or something like that. For all the rage against the Congress and specifically against the House Republicans, I expect that come November 2014 nearly all of them will be re-elected.
Buyer beware: Major stores may mislead with 'sales'
Wed Jun 19, 2013
Finally a message board subject with some intelligent comments! I too applauded JCP for getting rid of the sales. It was to the point, that scarcely any retailer ever had "regular" pricing anymore, everything was always "on sale" to the extent it had no meaning anymore. I  …
'Long overdue': Reactions to White House announcement on Syria
Thu Jun 13, 2013
Bush and Obama - two peas in a pod when it comes to saber-rattling and national security issues. At the least, Obama should return his Nobel Peace Prize just like GB did. Oh wait, GB was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Raw milk sickened scores, even with oversight, report finds
Sun May 5, 2013
I am forever skeptical of people who do something incredibly risky health-wise, and then say "NEVER did we get sick". I know of virtually no one who has "NEVER been sick". Reminds me of an office complex where I once worked, where space was sub-leased to small businesses.
French fry sales drop as more choose low-cal foods, study finds
Thu Feb 7, 2013
Not to worry about no one serving french fries or fried foods anymore - there is always Hardee's.
Psychology of Black Friday: Tradition, altruism drive pursuit of deal
Wed Nov 21, 2012
Two thoughts come to mind: 1. Since all these millions of Americans are going to shop Black Friday as a "family tradition", why do retailers even need to open their doors earlier or offer ridiculous discounts? Looks like the traditionlists would still shop regardless.
Chicago school officials: 'Very close' to averting teachers strike
Sat Sep 8, 2012
It's rather like Obama's whole perspective as well, just keep spending and don't bother with realistic budgets, Agreed! Obama's politics is steeped in Chicago, so why should he act any differently in Washington? Chicago politics is all he has ever known.
California governor calls for higher taxes, 4-day state workweek to fill $16 billion gap
Mon May 14, 2012
Had dinner with my boss recently. She and her husband moved to California long ago. Loved the state, the weather, just about everything about it - except the out-of-control state government and taxes.
Pahking the cah? Regional accents getting stronger
Fri Sep 9, 2011
My boss called one of his managers at a Boston branch office in December. The manager had left for an afternoon Christmas party. The receptionist explained that the manager had gone to the "potty". My boss, figuring it would be just a few minutes wait, asked to be put on hold. The reception …
Parts of Obama jobs package coming into focus
Thu Aug 25, 2011
Bad news for Obama - he reminds me of Jimmy Carter, who in his last year with a roaring recession offered up various economic plans in a desperate bid to save his presidency and win re-election. Good news for Obama - Jimmy Carter ran for re-election against Ronald Reagan. There seems to be no Reag …
